A Pokémon store is opening in London, with a targeted launch before 2029, marking the first permanent shop to be opened outside of Asia, with more on the way.
The Pokémon Center chain of stores is commonplace in Japan, with 23 separate locations, and two elsewhere in Asia, in Shanghai and Taipei, but there’s not been a permanent establishment outside of the region.
However, that’s set to change in the coming years, with The Pokémon Company announcing London would be the “first of several permanent Pokémon stores that are planned to launch outside of Asia.”
Pokémon Opening First Permanent Store Outside of Asia
In a press release, The Pokémon Company stated the London store “will be the ultimate destination” for fans of the franchise and will “include a variety of exclusive merchandise and one-of-a-kind experiences.”
Gaku Susai, chief product and experience officer at The Pokémon Company International, said: “We are always exploring new opportunities that help us create unique and memorable experiences for our fans.
“This new London store will give visitors the chance to step into the world of Pokémon, whether they’re discovering the brand for the first time or have been Trainers for years.
“We hope it becomes a place where everyone can come together, feel like part of a community and enjoy the magic of Pokémon in a whole new way.”
London has become a mainstay in the Pokémon calendar, serving as the host of the annual EUIC events as well as hosting the 2022 World Championships.
A precise location for the new Pokémon store in London has not been revealed, but more details, including other venues for permanent stores, will be shared in future.
