How to Use The Catch Window in Pokémon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC

Pokémon Legends: Z-A has expanded with the release of the Mega Dimension DLC, though some odd wording in specific areas of the game, instructing players to use the catch window, may be confusing.

The Mega Dimension DLC in Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings a host of returning Pokémon back into the fray, along with the introduction of new Mega Evolution Pokémon, and exploration throughout Hyperspace Lumiose requires earning points by completing Research Tasks assigned by Corbeau of the Rust Syndicate.

Using the catch window is one of the random tasks that can appear when you head into a distortion zone in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Insider Gaming has a full explanation of exactly what that means.

The catch window in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the period of time after depleting a wild Pokémon of it’s health when it is available to capture by throwing a Pokéball.

While the catch window has been present in Legends: Z-A since the game’s release, the mechanic has only really been highlighted in the Mega Dimension DLC with the introduction of Research Tasks to complete while exploring the new areas. In these pockets of distortion, you will regularly be asked to capture Pokémon using the catch window.

Here are the steps on how to use the catch window in Pokémon Legends: Z-A to complete Research Tasks within Hyperspace Lumiose.

  1. Summon a Pokémon from your party to attack the target wild Pokémon.
  2. Use attacks repeatedly until the health of the wild Pokémon reaches zero.
  3. The catch window is triggered when a wild Pokémon is knocked out, indicated by stars circling their heads.
  4. Select a Pokéball to throw at the knocked-out Pokémon, taking note of the colored arrows that indicate the likelihood of a successful catch.
  5. Throw your selected Pokéball.

Unlike throwing Pokéball’s at wild Pokémon while they still have health, there’s only one chance to successfully capture a knocked-out Pokémon in the catch window. Therefore, it’s crucial that you select the right ball for the job.

You can never go too wrong with an Ultra Ball, and, at this stage of the game, you should have an ample supply of cash to stock up. Failing that, Phillippe at the Rust Syndicate will provide you with Ultra Balls at varying stages of progression through the Mega Dimension DLC.
