Pokémon Game Sales Surpass 515 Million Worldwide

The Pokémon Company confirms Pokémon game sales have surpassed 515 million units, including 26 million sold last year. In its latest financial earnings report, The Pokémon Company revealed that by the end of the fiscal year ending in 2016, it had sold up to 515 million video games.

At the end of March 2025, that number was 489 million. This means that 26 million Pokémon games were sold in the last fiscal year. It’s known that at least 4 million of those sales are from Pokémon Pokopia.

Pokémon Remains One of Gaming’s Best-Selling Franchises Ever

In the financial earnings report, it was noted that over 85 billion Pokémon trading cards have been produced for the Pokémon franchise. Regarding the consistency of the video games, the Pokémon Company stated that the core Pokémon experience has remained unchanged and continues to engage new generations of players.

“Ever since the launch of the “Pokémon Red” and “Pokémon Green” versions in 1996, the basic aspects of “Pokémon” video games remain unchanged: players collect Pokémon, engage them in battles, raise them to progressively higher levels, and trade them with others.”

The next mainline Pokémon games are scheduled to release in 2027. Pokémon Winds and Waves is out next year. However, there’s no release date at this time. While there is no release date, there is a potential price leak from Amazon. Learn more about that at this link.

Speaking of Pokopia, the European region will soon begin selling Nintendo Switch 2 bundles that include the game. Learn more about that here.
