PlayStation’s Reasons for Cancelling Physint Revealed

A new Bloomberg report reveals that commercial performance, budget, exclusivity concerns, and more led PlayStation to cancel Physint.

This week, players learned of a surprising split between Hideo Kojima and PlayStation, with the latter deciding to step away from Physint and XBOX stepping in to partner with the Metal Gear Solid creator. Now, the reasons behind why PlayStation decided on cancelling the game have been revealed.

Physint Canceled Due to Performance, Budget and Exclusivity Concerns

A recent report from Bloomberg outlines the reasons for PlayStation’s cancellation of the Physint project, as revealed by anonymous sources close to the situation. A key reason for the cancellation was that the commercial performance of Hideo Kojima’s last two titles for PlayStation, the Death Stranding series, did not meet revenue expectations. Additionally, several other factors played a role in the decision to terminate the project.

The next reasons that were revealed stated that the upcoming project had missed deadlines and was “on track to be well over budget,” even though the release is a long way away. PlayStation was also not too keen on investing “hundreds of millions of dollars” on a title that will only remain exclusive to their platform for a limited period of time.

However, all is not lost as Hideo Kojima confirmed that after spending three months searching for a new partner, XBOX has come in to publish their “genre-defining action-espionage title.”
