Square Enix ‘Exploring’ Final Fantasy Collaborations, But No Fortnite News Yet

Final Fantasy 7’s game director has confirmed that Square Enix is exploring potential collaborations ahead of the release of the title, but indicated there is no updates to share on the Fortnite front.

The Epic Games behemoth has become the king of collaborations, with the current season focused on gaming legends including the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, and Tetris, and the Final Fantasy franchise has long been slated for a Fortnite crossover.

However, addressing speculation that such a collaboration could lie ahead, Naoki Hamaguchi clarified there was ‘nothing to share’ on that front.

No News on Potential Final Fantasy x Fortnite Collab

Posting on X, in response to a tweet suggesting the Final Fantasy franchise could be coming to Fortnite in the future, he clarified Square Enix’s approach to collaborations.

“As we approach the launch of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, we are exploring collaborations with a variety of different IPs. Our collaboration with Street Fighter is one of the first steps in that effort,” he said.

“As for a potential collaboration with Fortnite, there is nothing I can share that would raise expectations at this time.

“However, as a game creator, I can say that Fortnite was certainly one of the titles that provided inspiration for the creation of Final Fantasy VII Revelation.”

Though the door is clearly not shut on a Fortnite collaboration, and Hamaguchi outlined the inspiration the Epic Games title has had on the creation of the next entry in the Final Fantasy remake series, it seems such a collab may not be imminent.

The signs are there for a future collaboration, however, especially with another Square Enix franchise, Kingdom Hearts, set to land in Fortnite later this season.
