PlayStation Portal’s September update, version 7.1.7, is now live, and it focuses on battery health.
The portable PlayStation device received a new feature back in March, which added an upgraded 1080p High Quality mode during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming, which ‘prioritizes higher video quality and uses more data.’ Now it has received another new feature that helps with battery health.
PlayStation Portal Update 7.1.7 Adds an 80% Charge Limit to the Device
The new update for PlayStation Portal, version 7.1.7, will change the way players have been charging their devices, and this change has been made to support “long-term battery health.” When players install the update, a charge limit of 80% will be set for the PlayStation Portal by default.
It is possible to change this limit manually by heading to ‘Settings’, then ‘System’ and then ‘Battery’. However, PlayStation has warned players that setting the limit over 80% could “impact battery performance and overall stability, reducing long-term battery health.”
Many devices now include a battery health update, which recommends avoiding completely depleting or fully charging the device’s battery. Also, avoiding conditions that cause the device to overheat helps overall battery health.

Players are required to update their PlayStation Link device to the latest software version in order to connect to the PlayStation Portal. They can do this by connecting the USB adapter to a PS5 or PC.
Lastly, the PlayStation Portal update 7.1.7 improves system software performance and stability, messages, and usability on some screens. Players can check out the patch notes here.
