It looks like Call of Duty fans are finally getting something they’ve been asking for, as Activision has confirmed that an Operator Skin Toggle is coming alongside Season 1 of Warzone.
The toggle will let you customise your own experience by replacing other players’ equipped skins with a random Modern Warfare 4 Operator instead. The change will only be visible to you, meaning other players will continue to see their own chosen cosmetics as normal.
Call Of Duty Keeps Its Word
It’s been a long-standing complaint within the Call of Duty community that some operator skins have strayed too far from the franchise’s traditional military aesthetic. Over the years, we’ve seen everything from Nikki Minaj and American Dad to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles make their way into the game.
When Modern Warfare 4 was first announced, the team acknowledged these concerns and promised to “stay true to Modern Warfare,” with “no clowny skins for launch and seasons beyond.”
While that may have been the intention, plenty of outlandish cosmetics have already appeared over the years, and with operator skins carrying over from previous games, Warzone was always going to be packed with them.
That’s where the new Operator Skin Toggle comes in. Once enabled, other players’ cosmetics will be replaced by a random Modern Warfare 4 Operator from your perspective. You won’t have to worry about seeing the more outlandish skins, while everyone else will continue seeing their own equipped cosmetics.
The toggle will be switched off by default, but it’s a welcome extra layer of customisation for players who want their Call of Duty experience to feel a little more grounded. Whether Activision keeps the in-game store more in line with that military aesthetic in the months ahead is another question, but at least players will soon have the option to tune out some of the more unusual skins.
