The LinkedIn account of a former PlayStation employee offers new insights into how PlayStation generated profits by bringing its games to PC.
Jerry Liu was previously the PC Planner and Insights Manager at PlayStation from January 2021 to June 2023. On his LinkedIn page, he notes that he increased the division’s net revenue from $0 to $300 million during his time overseeing the brand.
Some of his responsibilities included providing insights to persuade leadership to adopt a more aggressive pricing strategy, which helped increase the business unit’s gross revenue by 25%. Additionally, he analyzed the PlayStation catalog to identify valuable underutilized games to bring to the PC market.
In contrast, PS4 and PS5 software sales hit that milestone in a single year.
PlayStation Reportedly Moving Away from PC
Recently, reports suggested that PlayStation may be stepping back from porting its single-player games to PC. In March, it was reported that plans to release Ghost of Yotei and other titles on Steam were canceled.
Over the past six years, titles like Returnal, God of War, God of War Ragnarok, the Spider-Man games, and the Horizon series have seen success after being ported to PC. However, research shows that PlayStation ports on PC tend to have a low player share. Find out more about that here.

These games were old when they got released on PC. Most people who wanted them had already played them on Playstation and the hype had died. It is delusional to believe that releasing them many years later on PC would make them the same amount of money.
Even so, personally i do not believe: a) That they will abandon the PC market and b) That they are making so low amounts of money from PC. Especially a), as this is not any official announcement but rather the clickbait rumor from a single american journalist with no proper evidence or named sources.
