Analysts Forecast a PlayStation 5 Pro Will Release This Year

Speaking to CNBC, analysts have said that Sony is likely to release a PlayStation 5 Pro by the end of this year.

“There seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024,” Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based games consultancy Kantan Games, told CNBC.

“And Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025, a launch that will be a shot in the arm for the entire gaming industry”, it was said.

Insider Gaming exclusively reported in March 2023 that PlayStation was gearing up to launch a PlayStation 5 Pro, which was then followed up by my report on Key to Gaming on spec details.

According to sources, the PlayStation 5 Pro is known as Project Trinity internally and is scheduled to release later this year. However, Sony’s recent earnings call revealed that the company does not have any major existing franchise released for the PlayStation 5 until April 2025, which could be an indicator that the PlayStation 5 Pro release could be delayed. After all, a release alongside GTA 6 in the holiday of 2025, alongside a major game such as Death Stranding 2 could be a major factor for those purchasing a new console.

Details on the specifications of the console are slim, with sources citing that the majority of information currently out there on the specs is nothing but educated guesses. Key to Gaming reported that the PS5 Pro will have 30 WGP and 18000mts memory.

Do you think we’ll see a PS5 Pro by the end of this year? Let us know in the comments below.

  • It doesn’t make since for a mid refresh on the console. There is so much more that can be done with the current console. GTA6 maybe the first software that may push the boundaries of the PS5, but other developers barely scratched the surface so far. Sony has officially (and third party) have finally cut most ties with the PS4 PRO. Let’s see how the games come out now before jumping to a Pro. We need at least two more years of the standard PS5.

  • Wife is angry about this. So, please just wait and release a PS6 at the regular interval date. I’m already mad at her for ignoring my texted link to PSPortal from Walmart before they sold out (Pre-12/25/23). Come on Sony/PlayStation, make some more of those already!

  • I’m switching on over to PC full-time after this gen. I’m through with consoles. At this rate next gen will only be one to two years. What a joke.
