Peak Adds New Features in Latest Beta Update

Peak’s latest beta patch is now live, introducing new features, some balancing changes and other major and minor fixes.

For those unaware, Peak is a co-op, physics-based climbing game developed by Aggro Crab and has recently gained popularity on Steam. The developers recently announced that the game had sold more than 5 million copies within a month. It is also receiving new content regularly to keep those players entertained.

Peak Beta Patch 0.8.d Features

Peak beta patch 0.8.d is now live; a final version of this update will arrive at a later date. The developers have stated that “The beta generates different maps if that sweetens the deal…” This update introduces several new features, including a new camera option, a pause feature, new music, and more. Check out all the new features added in this Peak beta patch 0.8.d:

  • The first new feature is the ‘Reduce Camera Bobbing Option’; however, as the game is physics-based, this is just a ‘workaround solution’.
  • Now, players have the option to use the Pause feature in Offline Play.
  • Players have received new biome-specific sunset/sunrise music, making your climbs even more immersive.
  • The crash site has received two new items, a ‘Flying Disc’ and Binoculars. The Binoculars work as you would expect, and “The Flying Disc can bonk like a coconut if you throw it hard enough”.

New Balancing Changes

  • Players will no longer find Blowguns in Solo play.
  • The weight of the Anti-Rope cannon is now 0, it has “no gravity at all” and its art/icon has been updated. The developers made this update as they “just felt like it”.
  • Guidebook Scrolls now spawn in chronological order, regardless of where the player is on the mountain. This change will make it easier to earn the Bookworm badge.

Major Fixes

Peak Beta patch 0.8.d also includes a comprehensive set of bug fixes. Check out the major ones below:

  • Players can no longer win if they die; this resolves a glitch where players would intentionally throw themselves into the void to win the game.
  • The total runtime is now synced to the host time, allowing everyone to get the Speedrun achievement together.
  • Players can no longer get multiple ticks on them at once
  • The Napberry plant is now functioning properly
  • A potential fix for rare cases where players were unable to light their campfires
  • Further reduced the intensity of the explosive spore visual effect to hopefully fix crashes related to explosions.
  • Fixed an issue where the screen could turn black permanently if the player were revived while swapping spectate targets.
  • Fixed an issue where the chain launcher would sometimes spawn as a broken version that didn’t launch a chain when used.
  • Fixed an issue where being fed an item by a friend would instead count as them eating it for achievement purposes
  • Fixed an issue where, rarely, achievements might fail to trigger for no apparent reason.
  • The Gourmand badge now properly requires the items to be cooked first before eating.
