OpTic Gaming just put on a Halo-themed masterclass of competitive gaming action in Dallas. Fans were shaken by a first-round defeat from SSG that forced OpTic into the lower bracket at the earliest opportunity, but their resolve wasn’t weakened.
OpTic Gaming went on to walk all over six incredible teams to win the lion’s share of the pot in Dallas, and that win streak included knocking out tournament favourites and OpTic’s nemesis in SSG.
What a Run
OpTic came into the HCS Dallas Open with white-hot momentum after picking up the prize at the Arlington Major last month, which was also held in Texas. That win came after a cold front had kept trophies at bay at OpTic Gaming since September 2023, when the team won the Fort Worth Major.
Last year, it was tough to be an OpTic Gaming fan in the Halo space. The organisation was pipped to the post in every tournament by Spacestation, winding up in second place at four Majors and Halo Worlds.
The redemption story has been well and truly kicked off now, and it has already included OpTic getting a lick back over SSG by pushing them out of the running in Dallas.
By the time the final few matches were shaping up, OpTic Gaming was in flow state, crushing Shopify Rebellion and TSM without a single map loss, before meeting FaZe Clan in the grand final. With a scoreline of 4 – 1, the reset kicked in and OpTic refused to drop a map once again, hitting a perfect 4 – 0 score to wrap up the tournament.
What a weekend this was for esports fans, my word.
