New PlayStation-specific US physical sales data has revealed that only 7 games have sold over 100,000 units this year.
PlayStation announced at the start of this month that it will stop producing discs for new PS games in 2028, a decision that sparked widespread discussion across the gaming community. Sony said its no-disc decision was driven by shifting consumer preferences from physical discs to digital. Now, players have been provided with PlayStation’s US physical sales data for this year.
PlayStation’s US Physical Sales Data Revealed
Spotted by IGN, the latest PlayStation US physical sales data comes through Mat Piscatella, Senior Director and Video Game Industry Advisor at Circana, over on BlueSky. Piscatella’s latest post reveals that only 7 PlayStation games have managed to surpass the 100,000 mark in physical units sold year-to-date. Additionally, the analyst also revealed that only 2 PlayStation games sold more than 10,000 physical units during the week ending on July 11, 2026. Piscatella obtained these numbers through the Circana Retail Tracking Service.
However, as mentioned above, the sales data is for the United States only. The UK’s Digital Entertainment and Retail Association states that “25% of under 25s use discs for gaming and the total disc-based games market was valued at over £300 million in 2025.” ERA had also argued that “A disc can be shared with family, traded in, collected, preserved and, crucially, still played years from now. A download license often offers none of those freedoms.” However, no comparable PlayStation physical sales data for Europe has been revealed recently.
