Well, that didn’t take long. It’s only been up for less than five hours, and the Kickstarter for The Guild reunion movie has already surpassed its funding goal.
Opening on the morning of July 20, The Guild movie, now known as The Guild: Ren Faire’d, had a Kickstarter goal of $1.5 million. As of 3:25 PM EST, the movie has raised $1.65 million from over 9,000 backers. What’s more is that there are still 32 days to go, which bodes well for reaching higher amounts.
The Guild Goes To The Renaissance Faire
Alongside the start of the Kickstarter, it was announced that the film is set “in the vibrant world of the Renaissance Faire.” There’s nothing in the way of story details yet, but Day promises to “honor the series fans fell in love with while welcoming a whole new generation of Guildies to the party.”
Speaking with Insider Gaming for the series’ return, creator Felicia Day said that going the Kickstarter route just made sense, especially after being asked to reboot the series with a younger cast.
“I’m like, you know what? I’m going to make a movie. It’s going to be amazing,” she said. “And the fans are going to support it. So, I didn’t even try to sell this movie to Hollywood. I don’t need them.“
Despite the project reaching its base funding goal, those interested can still back the project. Doing so will get you access to a digital copy of the movie, but there’s more than just the film.
The Guild will also have a new dating card game called Swords & Sweethearts as well as a D&D 5.5 supplement called Dragonor, a popcorn bucket, shirts, stickers, dice sets, and more.
