Obsidian Entertainment has temporarily taken down several of its titles on all digital storefronts due to a Unity issue.
Since 2003, Obsidian Entertainment has delivered some of the best-reviewed RPGs of all time, like Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds. So far this year, the team has two titles come out: Avowed and Grounded 2 Early Access. Furthermore, its biggest one, The Outer Worlds 2, is planned to release on October 29th, 2025. However, it seems that an unforeseen security vulnerability with Unity has caused the company to take down many of its titles.
Obsidian’s Avowed, Grounded 2 Taken Off Storefronts Due To Unity Security Vulnerability
On Twitter/X, Obsidian Entertainment released a statement regarding an in-engine issue. In this case, a security vulnerability in the Unity engine was found, though no specifics were given. So, for safety reasons, many of its titles have been taken down from Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, and Steam, among other storefronts. No date as for when the games will return, but the team urges that, once a patch is out for the games, to download them before playing. The games Obsidian Entertainment has taken down are below:
- Grounded 2 Founders Edition
- Grounded 2 Founders Pack
- Avowed Premium Edition
- Avowed Premium Edition Upgrade
- Pillars of Eternity: Hero Edition
- Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition
- Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire
- Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Ultimate
- Pentiment
The unforeseen takedown does feel quite warranted given the security measures. While some of the titles, like Avowed, use Unreal Engine, the artbook is in Unity, hence the takedown. Unfortunately, Pentiment fully used Unity, so the entire game is not available. In any case, it seems the issue is currently being handled, so it’s only a matter of time before it’s fixed. Until then, it’s a safe bet not to engage with the titles/editions, despite the critical acclaim.

Pretty idiotic. As a developer who maintains some legacy products, it took me five minutes to patch our legacy products using unity’s tools, and thirty minutes to update our automated pipelines to take advantage of that tool for all foreseeable releases. It probably took them longer than that to update their store pages.
Microsoft needs to close them down and fire the Xbox Game Studios staff should close already
And you weren’t worried about the QA side? Just bang on a patch and release?
Any feedback yet?
