Nintendo Sends Strange Invitation to Replay Super Mario Odyssey

Hours ago, Nintendo issued a promotional email that invited players to both share and relive their adventures in Super Mario Odyssey. While this could be nothing more than an innocent (but somewhat strange) marketing campaign, it could indicate that something new is coming to the Odyssey ecosystem in the near future.

This year, Odyssey (and the Switch itself) turns six years old, and it’s rather safe to say that everything to be discovered and completed in the game has been ticked off by every player that has owned it. It could be a retrospective marketing campaign, or it could be a sign of something deeper.

Does Anybody Want Odyssey 2?

There are suggestions that this year, a Nintendo Switch 2 (not a real name) will be announced, and along with it, a host of titles to flesh out the launch of an all-new platform. Of course, if we apply a little logic, it makes sense that Odyssey 2 would make a perfect launch title, given that it almost was a launch title for the OG Nintendo Switch, released back in 2017.

It’s a little late in the console’s lifecycle to start releasing all-new games exclusive to the platform, and many fans and critics believe that Tears of the Kingdom, the newly-revealed Legend of Zelda game, will be the last big release for the current-gen Nintendo Switch.

Here’s what Nintendo said in the strange promotional email after breaking down the original concept of Odyssey in a short paragraph:

But there may be even more out there still to be discovered… Perhaps it’s worth hopping aboard The Odyssey once more and taking the trip all over again.

Nintendo

This situation bears similar traits to one that took place in 2021, with Nintendo suddenly dropping promotional material for an older WarioWare title before announcing an all-new one.

Ultimately, this could just be a promotional tactic from Nintendo to draw attention to the Mario franchise. After all, the Super Mario Bros. Movie launches in April of this year, and Nintendo will want to pump up the attention factor by then.

  1. It is a strange proposition. The safest bet could be prepping fans for the new movie. But yeah, I would totally love more content, or better a new game.

  2. Maybe the hidden stuff that were revealed via Nintendo Switch’s news channel? I screen shorted them all, I’m sure they’re online, but I haven’t bothered to find them all still. I’m still looking for korok seeds 600 hours later. I haven’t played much in the last couple years though.

  3. As a huge fan who has replayed this game so many times, I will not only play it again but welcome a (unlikely) sequel
