NieR: Automata Devs Address 366 GB Update

An update for NieR: Automata has released, accidentally requiring 366 GB of space. The base game only requires 50 GB of space to download. The update is meant to add simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and Korean languages to the game, according to their November 5 update note on Steam.

A Fix for the Large Space Requirement is Coming

On the NieR Series X page (formerly Twitter), there is a note from the developers apologizing for the error and noting that they are working on a resolution. They also shared a workaround until it is fixed. Instead of downloading the giant update, selecting the “Properties” menu, then “DLC” and unselecting the DLC items allows players to keep playing the base game for now.

Although a DLC for the game hasn’t been released since 2024, there is still a large player base. In February of 2026, the game celebrated having surpassed 10 million copies shipped and sold.
