Last year, new CDPR job listings showed the developer was toying with implementing multiplayer into a possible Cyberpunk sequel, and new Cyberpunk 2 job listings have only reiterated this.
Does Cyberpunk need multiplayer? Some will say yes; others will disagree. There’s no denying that a single-player Cyberpunk 2077 experience, once it worked, is a sensational journey that almost doubles as a pseudo co-op game, with Johnny Silverhand lingering as a consistent presence. But it looks like multiplayer is an eventuality more than a possibility for Cyberpunk 2.
Cyberpunk 2 Wants Someone With ‘Understanding of Multiplayer’

In September 2025, we reported on new CDPR job listings, suggesting Cyberpunk 2 could feature online multiplayer, a big development considering how well the first game performed.

Fast forward over a year, and a new job listing for Cyberpunk 2 has been found. This role is a ‘Lead Quest Programmer’ working on ‘Cyberpunk 2’ for CD Projekt RED.
The core description states:
‘CD PROJEKT RED is looking for a Lead Quest Programmer to join the team working on Cyberpunk 2, the follow-up to Cyberpunk 2077 and the next major video game in the Cyberpunk franchise, led by our North American team centered in Boston.’
There are many roles within the job, and a lot of experience is required; however, it’s hard to look past the ‘Nice to Have’ section, mentioning skills that aren’t needed to apply but would be handy, essentially:
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine architecture.
- Understanding of multiplayer network architecture and client-server synchronization for game state/quests.
- Shipped AAA game(s) on a bespoke or custom narrative/quest toolset.
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine UI tools or editor scripting for custom content tools.
I’ve highlighted the key part. You don’t even need to speculate at this point; it seems quite clear CDPR is leaning into some sort of multiplayer addition to Cyberpunk 2077. We just don’t know if it’s online multiplayer, local co-op, online co-op, or something else entirely.
