New 343 Halo Project in Development Since 2022

A sharp-eyed user on Reddit, Quelanight2324, has spotted two different job descriptions on LinkedIn that suggest 343 Industries has worked on a new Halo project since April 2022.

The first hint refers to Justin Dinges, who has already worked on previous Halo titles.

Dinges was an Environment Artist on Halo 4 and 5, earning more responsibilities with each sequel. They eventually worked as a Game Director on Halo Infinite.

Dinges’ profile currently says they “worked on Halo’s next unannounced release” as an Art Director between April 2022 and March 2023.

The second job description that Quelanight2324 discovered points to Ian Slutz.

They have been a Senior Character Systems Designer for 343 Industries since 2019. Their job description mentions work on “player systems and assets in Unreal Engine 5”.

This doesn’t directly reference the new Halo game. However, the next Halo title is expected to be built on Unreal Engine 5.

That approach was referenced in October 2023, during an episode of the gaming podcast SG Bitcast. The site’s editor-in-chief Ains mentioned that a team was “building the next generation of Halo on Unreal”.

So, this could mean that Ian Slutz has been actively working on the title’s UE5 structure.

Halo Infinite began with a strong multiplayer launch, but quickly wore out its welcome for some fans. The full game was missing some essential features, and took a while to catch up with expectations.

Hopefully, 343 Industries takes its time for a more comprehensive launch with its new title, especially if it has more ambitious goals.

Either way, the Halo franchise and its fanbase are doing just fine. The live-action series continues to roll out, and Mantic Games even announced a new Halo board game.

  • 343 has proven they’re not good at Halo and Halo has deteriorated as a brand because of that. Just reboot or make a new game. How about just keeping multiplayer alive as f2p. Get a new developer too like since EA and Microsoft are so close let them make the next Halo in Frostbite.

  • Microsoft refuses to listen maybe with the Bungie layoffs they can just hire them to come back and save Halo and the same for Gears just have Cliff come back because The Coalition narrative wise has no idea what to do. Cliff has good ideas too would finally give Xbox what they need in the new IP department.
