Many were left with a slightly empty feeling after the recent Xbox Games Showcase when Bethesda Game Studios didn’t reveal something related to Fallout, aside from more content for Fallout 76, of course. For a while, fans of the post-apocalyptic series have been eagerly awaiting news of a Fallout 3 remaster or a follow-up to 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas.
It’s tough being a Fallout fan right now. The hype for the show died off, and the next season isn’t coming for almost six months, there’s no indication of a Fallout 5 sitting on the horizon, and Fallout 76 is in a slight endgame rut again.
Fortunately for those hungry gamers, it was recently claimed that ‘multiple Fallout projects’ are in development.
‘Fallout is the Big One’
It was claimed in April that the Fallout 3 remaster is in the works, but it might be a very long time before it materializes. We’re also several years away from Fallout 5 emerging from the depths of Bethesda Game Studios. It’ll be a very different world when that game is eventually released, though. I can’t wait to play it on my PlayStation 8 Elite Pro.
Recently, during an episode of Skill Up’s Friends per Second podcast, it was claimed that multiple Fallout games are in development.
It’s safe to assume that Fallout 3 Remastered is one of them, but as for the others, it’s likely something linked to Fallout: New Vegas, which would potentially lean on the show’s success for boosted gains. Some fans have joked that another game in development could be Fallout Shelter 2, while others believe Fallout 5 might have moved away from the ‘one page stage’ it was previously at.
In the recent episode of Friends per Second, VGC’s Jordan Midler claimed several Fallout games are being pieced together:
Fallout is the big one. I cannot believe that they didn’t immediately start work on a Fallout 5…
… There are multiple Fallout projects in development, including, as far as I’m aware, that one you’re all wanting, but it’s not far enough along to say anything that’s like, you’re going to be playing this game any time soon.
In some ways, it’s a reiteration of what we’ve been led to believe, and what I’ve outlined above. It’s a relatively safe bet to say that multiple Fallout projects are, at the very least, planned. I heard from Bethesda Game Studios’ Jon Rush and Bill LaCoste at Summer Game Fest that there are stacks of ideas for Fallout games (but they couldn’t share anything with me).
Bethesda Game Studios should be putting together a Starfield expansion of some kind, and The Elder Scrolls 6 needs to be delivered before we get a new Fallout game. There are a few hurdles to leap clean over before we get anything with that classic post-apocalyptic vibe.
