As we inch ever closer to the Summer Game Fest that will play host to massive Xbox and Bethesda showcases, it seems that Sony is more intent than ever on putting out a monumental PlayStation event, setting the bar for the shows due to air in the summer. Recently, reports have begun surfacing that suggest Mortal Kombat 12 is one of the games that’ll take centre stage during that event, and that it may be happening sooner than we’d thought.
If PlayStation is going to beat Xbox and the like to the punch, it’ll need to drop a showcase in May, and according to several insider reports, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. That’s something that we also mirrored in our recent coverage surmising the next PlayStation showcase dates.
Is Mortal Kombat 12 mere weeks away from being officially revealed?
Remain Competitive, Always
This is a huge year for gaming, and both PlayStation and Xbox have some titanic titles ready to be released. For instance, Xbox has Starfield, one of the most highly-anticipated games in recent years, and PlayStation has Spider-Man 2, a long-awaited follow-up to the eye-wateringly popular first title that dropped in 2018.
Following the news that Mortal Kombat 11 made a whopping $500 million in profit, several insider experts have been toying with the suggestion that a PlayStation showcase will take place towards the end of May, and during that event, Mortal Kombat 12 will be fully revealed.
It has only been four years since MK11 launched, but at the moment, the fighting niche is stronger than ever, and within the next year, we’re set to receive Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 – so, it’s about time for a new Mortal Kombat title, too.
In recent weeks, Jeff Grubb suggested that the PlayStation showcase will happen in May, Shpeshal Nick claimed that Mortal Kombat 12 would be announced at that showcase, and Jez Corden corroborated that by saying MK12 will be announced in May.
Thanks to TwistedVoxel.com for the round-up!
At the moment, Mortal Kombat 11 is still being actively updated, but it could be sunsetted in the near future to prepare for the impending arrival of Mortal Kombat 12.
What do you think? Is it about time MK12… Got over here?
