Mortal Kombat 1 Content Support Is Finished

There will be no more additions to Mortal Kombat 1, developer NetherRealm has confirmed.

In a post on social media, it was announced that there wouldn’t be anymore DLC or story additions to the latest game in the long-running fighting franchise.

“We are hearing players’ requests for continued game support of Mortal Kombat 1, and, while we will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 through balance adjustments and fixes, there will not be additional DLC characters or story chapters released from this point on,” the post reads.

“We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but our team at NetherRealm needs to shift focus to the next project in order to make it as great as we possibly can.”

Rumors of the end of support for Mortal Kombat 1 had been circulating for months. It was originally reported that all future DLC was cancelled after the Kombat Pack 2 and the Khaos Reigns expansion sold poorly. When it was announced that a Definitive Edition of the game was releasing, it seemed like the writing was on the wall for the end of the game. However, it had not been confirmed until the official tweet.

The final DLC release for the game was the T-1000 Terminator, which launched back in March.

  • So Injustice 3? After that flops will NRS finally close and WB license out DC games? Let’s get s Power Stone clone instead with Glen Murakami and Jeff Matsuda art Cel shaded and writing staff from The Batman 2005 and Teen Titans 2003 also Krypto and Legion Of Superheroes. Other idea would be DC vs Capcom with cel shaded and story by that staff and artists like Jeff Matsuda, Glen Murakami, Jorge Jimenez, Joe Madureira, Humberto Ramos, and J.Scott Campbell doing art. Or have that same art group work with SNK who’s better with gameplay.

  • Tell Ed Boon deliver on Def Jam already! We want YoungBoy! Also apologize for reposting Megan and apologize to Tory who was wrongfully jailed and innocent!

  • Just close Netherrealm down. License out DC to other devs let SNK make DC vs SNK with Glen Murakami, Jeff Matsuda, Jorge Jimenez, and Joe Madureira and the Teen Titans 2003 and The Batman 2005 writing the story.

  • MK is garbage. No more MK please. Please make a To Be Hero X art style and animation style 3D Deception style Ben 10 game with Joe Kelly and Joe Casey writing with single player MK2011 story mode and a Konquest mode. Generator Rex amd Secret Saturdays characters in the main story too. Let someone else make a 2000’s DC The Batman, Teen Titans, and Legion Of Superheroes Power Stone clone cel shaded and that staff writing and drawing it from those shows.

  • No Onaga, no Kobra, no Kai, no Kira, Boraicho, Blaze, the 3D era promised was never given. No Konquest mode and weird Li Mei and Ashrah also no Hanzo. If WB is really behind this game not Ed he shouldn’t be tweeting lies and Hanzo should be the main not Liu Kang!

  • MK is a dead brand. Bring Def Jam back already that would actually do well and sell DLC. Ed promised this on X. No excuse for messing up the females designs now. Unreal 5 too
