Battlefront 3 has been the talk of the town across social media platforms recently, and it seems like few people know why. The term is being lobbied around in comments sections worldwide, and Battlefront 2 has enjoyed a skyrocketing player count as a result of the buzz, but why?
The straw that broke the camel’s back for me came when I saw an ad on TikTok hosted by a grocery company promoting Battlefront 3. Is EA making Battlefront 3 after all, and if not, why the hell is the game trending so much?
Is Battlefront 3 Announced?
Not only is Battlefront 3 not announced, it’s highly likely it won’t ever be, despite the recent clamouring of fans everywhere. In a recent write-up discussing the soaring player count for 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2, our Tom Henderson gave his two cents on the topic:
As for the rumours of a Battlefront 3, well, last I heard was that it likely was never going to happen. Even if approved, who would develop it? DICE (and a whole boat load of EA studios) is now all-in on Battlefield. Could Respawn Entertainment take it on as Apex Legends seemingly winds down?
Who knows?
In a recent thread on Reddit, one former developer who worked on Star Wars: Battlefront 2 addressed the buzz for the game, peeing on everyone’s fireworks:
I don’t expect Battlefront 3 to be announced at the end of this rally.
But overall, yeah, I think there are people who are talking about it.
The developer, Mats Holm, explained that the team members who pieced together Battlefront 2 have mostly departed DICE since and have moved on to (some) greener pastures.
EA Response to Battlefront 3
To put it simply, Electronic Arts hasn’t said a thing about Battlefront 3 – and it likely won’t. I’ve reached out – as have many others – to try and get some kind of a statement, but the company is unlikely to say too much to address what’s little more than a viral title circulating social media.
If you’ve been holding out hope for a Battlefront 3 announcement, you’re probably not going to get one.
What About The Battlefront 3 Petition?
Ah, yes… The petition.
There’s a petition doing the rounds urging Electronic Arts to develop Battlefront 3, and at the time of writing, it had gathered some 10,300 signatures. That might not be enough to turn the heads of EA and Disney, but in the words of the great Tom Henderson, who knows?
