Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will soon be coming to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X, a new ESRB rating has revealed.
More Metro Coming to PS5 and Xbox Series S|X
The new ESRB ratings, first spotted by Insider Gaming, show that two Metro games will come to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are already playable on current-generation consoles via backward compatibility with few technical issues, but dedicated versions are apparently on the way soon, with major graphical improvements.

The Metro 2033 Redux rating states: Metro 2033 Redux is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Sexual Themes, Strong Language, Use of Drugs, and Violence. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is a first-person shooter, based on the novel Metro 2033, in which players struggle to survive amid the subway system of a post-apocalyptic Moscow. Players assume the role of a young man who travels through underground tunnels and above-ground destruction while battling human enemies and mutant creatures.

The Metro: Last Light Redux rating states: Metro: Last Light Redux is rated M for Mature 17+ by the ESRB with Blood, Intense Violence, Nudity, Sexual Content, Strong Language, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. Also includes In-Game Purchases. This is a first-person shooter in which players battle enemies in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic environment. Players assume the role of a soldier (Artyom) as he navigates underground tunnels and toxic surface landscapes while battling humans and mutant creatures.

Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux are remasters of the original games with the same titles, but since they are over a decade old, newer players still find them a bit outdated and prefer the originals in some aspects. If the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S releases bring better graphical fidelity, they will likely be the new entry points for anyone starting the franchise.
The new versions are all but confirmed at this point since they have separate game rating entries from the other platforms on ESRB. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 rating yet, but the game is already playable on the console via backward compatibility. We might see that later, or maybe it’s just not something the studio wants to tackle.
The only thing that’s left is a proper announcement from the studio. Will that be soon, in the coming weeks, or later during The Game Awards 2026? We will have to wait and find out.
