October 1 is a new but familiar beginning for Fortnite as Halloween season kicks off. Fortnitemares is back, bringing lots of spooky and scary new content, but what’s just as important is the new v42.30 update, which features an extensive list of patch notes and improvements.
The end of the year is always fun as we tick through the various seasonal periods. Christmas will be here, but before then, it’s time for Halloween. Fortnite is doing its annual nod to the spookiest time of year with Fortnitemares, featuring Slenderman and more huge collabs.
Key Fortnite Update v42.30 Changes
Friends List
Epic has finally given the friends list a makeover, and better yet, it’s now returned to the ‘Social tab in the Sidebar.’ It’s the small tweaks that can be the most enjoyable.
Cosmetic Changes
Fortnite has so many cosmetics at this point it’s silly. Things are going to be missing or stop working from time to time, and this update addresses the Cupid Kitty Sidekick, PAC-MAN, Peter B. Parker, the Batmobile, and much more.
PC Graphics
‘An Epic Quality Assets option is now available for Fortnite in the Epic Games Launcher – replacing the previous High Resolution Textures option.Â
Checking the Epic Quality Assets box downloads the assets to your PC, ensuring the best possible visual quality without needing to rely on your connection. To find it, click the three dots on the Fortnite icon in your Library and select Options. If you previously had High Resolution Textures installed, you’ll be switched over to it automatically.’
Streaming Improvements
If you experience some instability when streaming while playing Fortnite, Epic has adjusted priorities when you’re in-game: ‘Fortnite now automatically balances your internet connection between gameplay and streamed assets.’
Furthermore, in a future update, there will be a new option for high-quality textures.
