The Coalition has confirmed that several ‘legacy features’ are not included in Gears of War: E-Day at launch, including private matches, but will arrive in a future update.
Gears of War: E-Day early access kicks off on October 1, with a full launch of the latest entry from The Coalition‘s beloved Gears of War series coming five days later on October 6.
While there will be plenty for fans to sink their teeth into, private matches and other features from older titles won’t be available immediately and will instead come at a later date.
‘Legacy Features’ Coming Post-Launch
In a lengthy blog post shared ahead of the start of early access, The Coalition detailed how Gears of War: E-Day was built from the ground up, outlining future development plans.
While the new start “allowed for innovation in cover, combat, and enemies,” it was added that the trade-off was that adding every legacy feature from Gears of War’s illustrious history was not possible.
Meat Shields, Chainsaw Duels, and private lobbies are among those mentioned as not being included, alongside ‘select weapons from the franchise’s past,’ but it’s made clear that they are ‘not gone from the franchise.’
The Coalition states the ‘team is working hard to deliver the strongest and most stable launch experience we can with an eye to how, and what, to deliver and improve on fan-favourite features either post-launch or in our next title.’
The latter point is a significant one, as it means there’s no guarantee that all of the aforementioned absent features will ever come to Gears of War: E-Day, or if they will come with the next game in the series.
There’s still plenty of time for the additions to come to E-Day, however, with the post-launch schedule revealing Season 1 will run until December 1, alongside the names of Seasons 2 through 4.
