Mega Rayquaza Returns To Pokémon TCG For First Time In A Decade

The Pokémon Company has officially revealed the next TCG set releasing, with Delta Reign headlined by Mega Rayquaza’s return to the Pokémon TCG for the first time in over a decade.

The Mega Evolution era, sparked by the return of Mega Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, has brought a host of fan-favorite forms into the TCG, including newly added forms, and now, it’s time for Mega Rayquaza to shine when Delta Reign releases in November.

Mega Rayquaza Stars in Pokémon TCG Delta Reign

In a press release, Delta Reign’s global release date was revealed as November 6, with pre-release opportunities to experience the new set for the first time at Play! Pokémon events beginning October 24.

Delta Reign marks Mega Rayquaza’s first Pokémon TCG appearance since the Ancient Origins expansion in the XY era in 2015, and follows on from its recent addition to Pokémon TCG Pocket in the Ruler of the Skies expansion.

The legendary Hoenn Pokémon is joined by Mega Golurk, Mega Malamar, and Mega Golisopod in the set, each of whom were introduced in Legends: Z-A, and the set features new Legendary Stadiums, which feature connecting artwork, with confirmation that both halves will be found in the same booster pack.

Delta Reign includes 14 Illustration Rare cards and six Special Illustration Rare cards, with the set being the international version of Japan’s Storm Emeralda, which was released in July.

There will be some differences, however, as the Japanese set featured 12 Art Rares, Japan’s version of Illustration Rares, but we likely already know where the additional Illustration Rares will come from.

Japan recently had three Mega Starter Decks revealed that included exclusive Art Rares for Eevee, Zorua, and Sprigatito, which will likely be included in Delta Reign.

That tally adds up to 15 Illustration Rare Pokémon, one of which will be removed, as has become customary, with Kyogre confirmed to the the Elite Trainer Box promo.

Check out some of the special card types coming in the 30th Anniversary set in the video below.
