The team at Kraken Express has revealed everything you could want to know regarding the first major content update for Windrose, the open-world pirate-themed survival game that stormed up the charts just a few months ago. The game was released into early access on April 14, and it has carved out a nice space for itself in the survival niche thus far.
In the post on Steam, the team at Kraken uncovered everything coming in the Ashlands update, including the expansion of the story, new ships, and improvements to the game’s core operating model.
Windrose ‘Ashlands’ Update Explained by Devs
To open the blog post on Steam, the team at Kraken Express explained that Windrose’s story will be getting a sizeable buff when the Ashlands update drops. New factions will be introduced, and both the main story and side quests will be expanded nicely. They’re taking on the task of amending the existing factions too, making them more detailed and unique.
With the Ashlands update comes the Ashlands biome, a new region in the game, pitted and scarred by volcanic eruptions. It’s a dangerous place to explore, but it’s bursting with high-tier loot and plenty of resources for those who dare tread there.
Kraken is exploring new ways to expand the concept of base-building in Windrose, stressing that they’ve been inspired by what the community has managed to create thus far. They want to foster that creativity and let it bloom, so watch this space.
The team then admitted a weak spot that’s being addressed:
We feel that our ship gameplay has a lot of room for expansion, and we also have tons of your ideas and requests to draw from. It won’t be possible to tuck everything we’d like into one update, but we’ll surely experiment with and implement a few additions to this part of Windrose.
With that said, they’re trying to enrich and deepen ship gameplay, add more ship classes, and give combat gameplay ‘more care and attention’. There are also improvements inbound for NPC ships, which should reflect in more natural behaviour.
