Lunar Strike PREVIEW: A Promising Sci-Fi Narrative Adventure That Teaches You About Space

You might have first heard about Lunar Strike during the Insider Gaming Showcase earlier this year, but if not, don’t fret, because I had the opportunity to play the game at this year’s Gamescom.

If you’re familiar with the Insider Gaming Showcase, Lunar Strike was a standout game for many thanks to its fantastic visuals… But Lunar Strike isn’t just a game that looks good; it’s a game that educates and gives you that proper feeling of being an astronaut.

Jan Goossen, the executive producer of Lunar Strike, was arguably one of the more transparent folks I’ve had the pleasure of talking to at Gamescom thus far, even with PR (sorry Keith), watching closely by. Like most games in development, Goossen told me that the game is not yet finished, and that the developers are working tirelessly to fix bugs, improve certain movements, and refine aspects of the game to make it more player-friendly.

While I certainly enjoyed my time with the game, what was somewhat surprising to me was the amount of detail that’s gone into it. And I’m not just talking about scanning the entire South Pole of the moon to make sure it’s 100 percent accurate. But the game allows the player to learn about space.

Exploration in Lunar Strike is key, and on your travels you’ll come across a vast array of space objects, all of which have real-life information about what they are. From space suits, rovers, satellites, and equipment, you’ll learn about everything. What the item is, what it does, when it was used, and more.

To me, it felt like the team had true passion for what they were making, both in creating a game and in educating the player about space exploration and the moon.

Perhaps I took away something a little different from other previews you might see of Lunar Strike, but I genuinely feel that Lunar Strike will be a great educational tool for those who want to learn about space, and of course, play a cool game.

I’ll have my full thoughts on Lunar Strike closer to the game’s launch. But if you haven’t wishlisted Lunar Strike yet, please, give it a wishlist.
