Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement has received a development update, and the news may leave fans a bit disappointed. Koji Igarashi himself, the director of the new title, revealed that the release has been delayed until 2027. The first game of the franchise, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, was released in June 2019.
The Bloodstained franchise was born to meet the demand for games reminiscent of the iconic Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. In fact, the aforementioned Koji Igarashi was the assistant director of that game.
The Scarlet Engagement Has Entered The Final Stages of Development
Despite the delay to 2027, the new game produced by ArtPlay has already entered the final stages of development. As compensation, the studio published several brand-new screenshots of the game. In a video, Iga also promised to release gameplay footage soon. It is also worth mentioning that the studio suffered a major loss a few months ago. In February, Shutaro Ida, the project’s creative director, sadly passed away after battling cancer.

The Scarlet Engagement will feature several innovations compared to Ritual of the Night. Starting with the protagonists: players will control Leo and Alex, playing with both simultaneously. The goal is to put an end to the plans of the Demon Lord Elias and save the kingdom.
The title also features the series’s largest map yet, with a day-and-night cycle that includes different periods of the day. Players can learn new and powerful abilities as they progress, plus there is also a lot of crafting and cooking, along with customization that can change the players’ attributes.
