LittleBigPlanet Developer Media Molecule’s New Game Features ‘Open-World Content’

Media Molecule burst onto the scene in 2008 with LittleBigPlanet. The developer has ventured into new territory while releasing sequels alongside new IPs. The developer is rightfully a celebrated name in the industry, and its next moves could be leaning toward a new open-world game.

If you had a PS3, there’s a good chance you played a LittleBigPlanet game. The franchise’s mascot, Sackboy, is firmly established alongside some of the great PlayStation icons, and Media Molecule didn’t just stop with LBP games. The studio has flexed its creative muscles with Tearaway and Dreams, with live support ending for the latter in 2023 to work on a new title.

We haven’t heard too many peeps from Media Molecule since, but there is evidence that the developer is busy.

As found by MP1st, a Senior Environment Designer for Media Molecule who is working on an ‘Unannounced Project, New IP,’ has some interesting duties in their role.

One of the more interesting roles gives some indication of the next MM game: ‘Feature owner, main contact/vision holder of various open-world content.’

Furthermore, ‘Level blocking out main POIs, moment-to-moment gameplay, and forage design’ are mentioned as well. Suggesting it could be an action-packed game with fun moments and the possibility of obtaining materials/resources or collectibles.

It also mentions ‘paper design 2d layout,’ but I think it would be a universally big stretch to suggest this has anything to do with a sequel to Tearway, and it’s more to do with the game’s actual development.
