LEGO has today uncovered a much-asked-for retro-themed gaming set, the Sega Genesis. Today’s announcement of the impending drop came with a couple of mighty revelations, one being the release date, which is still a short while away, and another being the price point for the Sega Genesis LEGO set, which is drastically affordable.
Known outside North America as the Sega Mega Drive, the Genesis was released way back in 1988, dropping first in Japan and then taking over the world. It shifted upwards of 30 million units and introduced some of gaming’s most legendary characters, like Sonic the Hedgehog, who makes a secret appearance in this new set.
LEGO Sega Genesis Set Coming Soon
The team at LEGO revealed that the SEGA Genesis Console set will be released on June 1st, 2026, which means you’ve got just under a month, at the time of writing. It’s expected to be a bestseller on launch, especially considering how affordable it is.
In the United States, you’ll be parting ways with just $39.99 to secure the LEGO Sega Genesis, while in the United Kingdom, it’ll be just £34.99.
Fortunately, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, as you’ll be able to customize the branding on your LEGO console to match what you know best. The decals in the box include both Mega Drive and Genesis details.
Inside the SEGA Genesis Console set, you’ll find a secret image of Sonic the Hedgehog, hidden by the cartridge bay as a little easter egg.
The set, which features 479 pieces, represents phenomenal value for money. In the box, you’ll get two detachable controllers, a game card, stickers, and of course, the base console. It’s only a small thing, though. It’s just 4 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 12 cm deep.
For retro gaming fans and LEGO fans alike, the SEGA Genesis (Mega Drive) set will be a must-buy on June 1st.
