Riot Games has finally addressed the existence of League of Legends Classic following days of tidbits surfacing from dataminers and the like, promising a full reveal will land on July 11th, during the MSI Finals. However, it’s not officially clear what League Classic is, and fans have taken to social media to make their guesses.
Riot’s reveal video is a cinematic masterpiece that clears up very little, aside from suggesting that League of Legends Classic could cover multiple archaic versions of the legendary MOBA. What is clear is that the full reveal will come in just a couple of weeks.
Talking of the upcoming MSI, 35% of users on Polymarket believe that Hanwha Life Esports will lift the trophy in South Korea.
League of Legends Classic is Coming, Riot Confirms
The leaks that forced Riot’s hand in the reveal stakes have served to further deepen the mystery around League of Legends Classic. We’ve seen everything from low-poly champion models to references to early skins that dropped years ago. The teaser published by Riot debates whether League Classic should feature season one, season four, or ‘the era of Heart of Gold and early jungle routes.’
Here’s the full thing, so you can get up to speed:
The belief is that League Classic will be a fluid product or mode and not something static or fixed. It might address multiple historical points, with Riot Games revisiting the best and brightest moments of the last sixteen-or-so years, as it seems impossible to look back and pick one ‘true’ version of League of Legends.
Fans have weighed in across social media, making their demands. Many of them are happy with getting some old kits back, while others want entire game systems restored, bringing back their vision of peak League. As you can imagine, not everyone will be happy with what Riot Games produced in League Classic.
From what we know so far, it looks like League of Legends Classic could launch with up to 60 champions, a level cap of 30, a separate store, and a new battle pass system.
Tune in on July 11th when the MSI Finals take place in South Korea to see the full reveal, and let us know on the Insider Gaming Discord server now what you’re expecting from LoL Classic.
