Jack Black has been featured in a number of films based on popular video game franchises this decade, and he’d like to see it continue. Having starred in Minecraft and the two Super Mario Bros. films, he’s now turning his sights to a Sega property: Yakuza.
That’s right, the Tenacious D frontman, known for movies like Shallow Hal and School of Rock, now wants to be in an adaptation of the Yakuza series. Still, even he knows that’s a long shot.
Jack Black Doesn’t Know If Sega Would Make Room for a ‘Portly American’
Jack Black spoke about these aspirations during an interview with Ash Crossan of ScreenRant. Was promoting The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and revealed that he wants to start in another live-action video game adaptation. Still, he’s not exactly sure he fits the mold for what Sega would be looking for in a Yakuza film.
“So I’m going to throw my hat in that ring. I don’t know if there [are] any parts for me, like a portly American, but talk to me. Sega, give me a jingle.”
Black will be reprising his role as Bowser in the upcoming Galaxy film, but this time, he’s joined by a plethora of characters from Nintendo’s past. This includes Mouser, Wart, and Birdo. Bowser Jr also has a big role in this film.
Still, the hype surrounding the movie right now centers on the return of Star Fox’s Fox McCloud to prominence, as the Nintendo character will be featured in this film. Learn more about that here.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will premiere in theaters on April 1. Insider Gaming will continue to provide any news on the movie in the lead-up to its release.
