Is Roadcraft Multiplayer? Co-Op Explained

The wait for Roadcraft is almost over, and if you’ve been wondering whether you can jump in with friends, we’ve got all the details you need.

Roadcraft is the latest release from Saber Interactive and is a sequel to Snowrunner, which was an incredibly popular title boasting over 38,00 positive Steam reviews, so the bar has been set high.

Multiplayer is a key feature in modern gaming, so we’ve outlined everything you can expect from Roadcraft in this aspect.

Can You Play Roadcraft in Online Co-op?

Yes, Roadcraft has co-op multiplayer for up to four players and, marking a big change in the series, offers shared progression.

While the likes of Snowrunner did have co-op, progression was only saved for the host, so you could spend hours at work, only to not make any progress on your actual save. Thankfully, this has now changed.

With four players, you can share the responsibility and jobs around, with one player laying the asphalt and another rolling it, for example.

As there are plenty of main quests and side objectives, it’s easy to split apart and target different goals, or work together to achieve the big ones.

Of course, you need an online connection to play online co-op, as well as each player owning a copy of the game, but once that’s done, it’s just a case of selecting the multiplayer option at the main menu and diving in.

Does Roadcraft Have Local Co-op?

Roadcraft does not feature local co-op, which, although disappointing for some players, continues the downward trend for the industry in this regard.

Fewer and fewer titles offer local co-op multiplayer these days, and it’s not surprising to see Roadcraft follow the trend, though it’s worth pointing out that this feature would be difficult to make work.

Roadcraft often requires you to focus on the full screen to spot hazards on the road, including deep mud, and angling the crane just right to complete your task, which would be infinitely more difficult if you only had half of the screen to work with.

On top of this, Roadcraft is an incredibly detailed game, so performance issues would likely be an issue if split-screen multiplayer was introduced.

The good news is that Roadcraft is available on all next-gen platforms and is expected to be playable on Steam Deck when released, opening the door for more co-op options.
