Grounded 2 was once an Xbox exclusive title, but in an age of less exclusive games, let’s see what Obsidian Entertainment has in store for available platforms.
Just a few years ago, fans wouldn’t have believed you that Xbox-exclusive games would ever appear on PlayStation, but that’s the current reality. Forza Horizon 5, Gears of War E-Day, Sea of Thieves, Doom: The Dark Ages, and The Outer Worlds 2 have all ditched exclusivity and are now on or coming to PlayStation.
And that’s not all, as rumors suggest that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will eventually make the leap to PlayStation as well. That being said, Xbox has maintained some level of exclusivity with a few titles. For example, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launched on Xbox in December 2024, but not on PlayStation until April 2025. Obsidian Entertainment didn’t rule out a similar plan for Grounded 2.
Can You Play Grounded 2 on PS5?
No, Grounded 2 will not be available on PlayStation 5.
Following four years of console exclusivity on Xbox, the first Grounded game launched on PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch in April 2024. Fans held out hope that this indicated Grounded 2 would come out immediately on PlayStation, but that’s not the case.
However, Obsidian left the door open for a potential return at a late date. In an interview with GamesRadar, Marcus Morgan, executive producer of Grounded 2, said, “Even before we headed to new platforms, there was already a vision for where we wanted to take Grounded going forward. So while the influx of new players certainly didn’t hurt – and neither did making more money – we were already on the road long before that even happened. We knew what we wanted to do, and there was already excitement and support across the Xbox organization to go out and keep growing this franchise.”
GamesRadar confirmed that the plan from the start was always to make Grounded 2 a limited early access release for Xbox. Morgan didn’t rule out a reunion, though.
“Our focus is just on what our players are enjoying, and what’s satisfying is that we can do that in a sustainable manner,” he says. “That’s the approach that we’ll take going forward, and we’ll see what happens in the future – with regards to how it grows and how it expands.”
Can You Play Grounded 2 on Xbox Series X|S and PC?
Yes, as previously established, Grounded 2 will be an Xbox Series X|S and PC exclusive at launch.
Xbxo Series X|S and PC users can play Grounded 2 on day one for free if they are Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. Obsidian did not reveal how long the game will be a console exclusive.
Can You Play Grounded 2 on Nintendo Switch?
Even though Grounded was on the Nintendo Switch, Grounded 2 won’t be available on the console at launch.
Obsidian Entertainment didn’t outright rule out a Switch port in the future, but did emphasize that improving the product on Xbox is a priority.
