Is Fallout 4 More Fun With Mods? – Answered

No matter how much time passes, there will always be detractors within the Fallout fanbase that claim Bethesda Game Studios ruined the franchise. But listen, Fallout 4 is an absolute blast. It’s not the best RPG, but it is one of the best games in the series. It’s just downright fun. But is Fallout 4 more fun with mods?

Do You Need to Mod Fallout 4 to Have Fun?

You absolutely do not need to mod Fallout 4 to have fun. However, I would be lying to say I don’t mod the game to oblivion and back these days. After spending hundreds of hours exploring the Commonwealth in a completely vanilla save file, I can’t help but install a few mods.

Some offer pure quality-of-life improvements to help improve the game tenfold. Others, however, prove purely cosmetic or fun-enhancing. Are they a requirement to enjoy the game? Absolutely not!

What Are the Best Mods for Fallout 4?

The “best mods” for Fallout 4 depend on you and your play style. Do you want a bunch of anime characters to replace the Deathclaws? Yeah, you can do that. Would you prefer to enhance the immersion in the game world? It’s possible.

Personally, I enjoy improving the game’s settlement-building system with the likes of Sim Settlements 2. Then, I improve the weapons by replacing the pipe weapons and adding in far too many tacticool weapon mods, like the RU556, See Through Scopes, and the ever-popular MP5 Complex by FX0x01—a personal favorite mod author of mine.

I suggest taking an evening to sift through the many thousands of available mods on Nexus Mods. You’re sure to find something interesting. Or something downright degenerate. It depends.

Can You Mod Fallout 4 on Consoles?

You can mod Fallout 4 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. However, it’s extremely limited compared to the PC version, which has access to Nexus Mods.

To access mods on the console version of Fallout 4, select “Mods” from the main menu. This option brings you to Bethesda’s mod selection page, a limited repository of approved game modifications. From there, select the mod you wish to install, click “Download,” and wait for it to finish. Some mods require a fresh save file to function correctly, so keep that in mind!
