Modern Warfare 4 brings us back to the MW timeline of CoD content, and yet, the SBMM discussion has already started. Instead of glossing over it, Infinity Ward has already addressed the state of SBMM in MW4, and it’s quite interesting.
Black Ops 7 infamously began its road by pretty much removing SBMM. However, over time, SBMM began to creep its way back into the fold, and we all noticed, to the point that the developer acknowledged it.
With Modern Warfare 4 being a new game, an old conversation has already reared its head.
Modern Warfare 4 SBMM Won’t ‘Revert Directly Back to Pre-Black Ops 7’

CharlieIntel has managed to learn a few extra details about the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
The page revealed how Infinity Ward is approaching SBMM for MW4:
‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 ‘skill based’ matchmaking will “not revert directly back to pre-Black Ops 7.” Infinity Ward tells us they are analyzing all of the data from Black Ops 7 and will be transparent about the system before launch.’
This isn’t a yes, nor is it a no.
Not reverting directly back means that there will be some element of Modern Warfare 4 matchmaking that won’t consider or focus on SBMM, but it also probably means that it’s not being removed altogether again.
Quite simply, we need two different playlist options: One with SBMM and one that doesn’t put SBMM as the key parameter in matchmaking.
We should learn more closer to launch, so stay tuned for new updates on SBMM in MW4.
