Even if you’re not hunting down every Valor Mortis trophy and achievement, this is an extremely cool Elden Ring easter egg, recognizing the father of souls games—FromSoftware. So read on for how to ‘Ignite the Bonfire in the Castle’ for ‘Frenzied Flame.’
If you saw the words ‘Frenzied Flame’ and immediately had a grin on your face, then you already know. If it means nothing to you, Frenzied Flame is a reference to Elden Ring: You might have seen characters with their eyes or heads replaced by what looks like a burning sun. Valor Mortis slides in a cheeky easter egg to Elden Ring and FromSoftware in general.

How to Get Frenzied Flame Trophy in Valor Mortis—Location, Explaind
To ignite the bonfire in the castle, you must find the secret room in the Fortress section of Valor Mortis, locate the sword buried in the ground, and use the Flame Transmutation on it.
I say secret; it’s not that secret, but you can miss it if you’re not looking hard enough. This Valor Mortis trophy and achievement can’t be obtained until you’re able to enter the Fortress section of the game.

Here’s a quick walkthrough of what you need to do, though:
- Progress through Valor Mortis as intended.
- Eventually, you will gain a key for the University.
- Here you acquire the ability to protect against poison in Valor Mortis.
- You can access Fortress.
- Enter, and open up shortcuts and advance through the level.
- You should eventually reach the Ramparts Lantern. (Screenshot 1 above)
- From it, do a 180—don’t go up or down the stairs in front of it—back through the doorway.
- Turn right, go down the ladder, and then down the stairs.
- Go into the room where you can swing and jump across the blue branch, and do just this. (Screenshot 2 above)
- Turn right, go through the door, crouch under the goop, and exit the room on the opposite side. (Screenshot 3 above)
- After you go down the stairs, head into the middle of the room, turn left 90 degrees, and go down the stairs next to the torch—literally opposite the locked room filled with poison. (Screenshot 4 above)
- Run down the long hall, and the sword is in a room at the end on the left.
- Equip your Fire Transmutation.
- Blast the sword to receive your prize!
