From villages to castles and army encampments, William gets his steps in across Valor Mortis. With an emphasis on returning to previous locations once you gain new abilities, fast travel becomes a very handy feature.
I always picture some horrible timeline where fast travel was somehow never invented. Having to manually travel everywhere in every game, ever. In a semi-open-world game like Valor Mortis, this would be very difficult, which is why One More Level provides fast travel after a certain point.

When do You Unlock Fast Travel in Valor Mortis?

Fast Travel becomes available after you beat General Lothaire, The Eagle Bearer, unlock the Abandoned Church hub area, and activate the Lantern inside.
In the Abandoned Church location, you’ll probably encounter a thick fog wall, whose style and ominous nature will be eerily familiar to all soulslike fans. Beyond it lies General Lothaire, The Eagle Bearer, whom you no doubt succumbed to the first time you stepped into the arena with him.

Defeat him in this new setting, and beyond him lies the door to the Abandoned Church. You’ll meet a friendly face on the inside, as well as a Lantern you’re sure to visit over and over again throughout the course of your journey.
Given that Valor Mortis has Metroidvania elements, you’re encouraged to return to previous Lanterns to uncover secrets and new items and locations previously inaccessible. Fast travel facilitates this and helps you complete the game fully.
How to Use Fast Travel in Valor Mortis

To fast travel, interact with any Lantern you’ve Kindled in Valor Mortis, scroll through other Lanterns, and press to confirm your destination—or press to ‘Return to the Abandoned Church’ if that’s what you seek.
Interacting with the Abandoned Church Lantern for the first time automatically triggers a prompt: ‘You can freely travel between any discovered Lanterns.’
