Some games lock you out of post-game progression once you finish; some offer New Game Plus, and others have a definitive point of no return—and Valor Mortis touches on all three.
Valor Mortis takes you on a linear journey across many chapters. I won’t spoil anything, but a key event in the story ultimately changes the dynamic of the game, and this will have you questioning what’s next.

Does Valor Mortis Have Free Roam?

Yes, you can free roam in Valor Mortis after you complete the main game, allowing you to go back and revisit other locations.
I’ll touch on the ‘point of no return’ shortly, but once you beat the final boss (no spoilers here, don’t worry), the credits roll, you can sit back and appreciate the hard work from hundreds of dedicated devs, and once all is said and done, you can load back in, and the room taking you to the final fight (where you initiated the Sphinx fight) will have a Lantern, and Lucjan standing next to it.

You can speak to him, and after this, you’re basically free to do as you please again. Use the Lantern and fast travel to any others throughout Valor Mortis, and you can clean up any side quests (like the Lullaby side quest) or collectibles you’ve missed.
*MAJOR SPOILER WARNING AHEAD FOR TOWARD END OF GAME*
Does Valor Mortis Have a Point of No Return?

Yes, Valor Mortis has a temporary point of no return, which it doesn’t tell you about: The Lantern just before you fight Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris in University.
The end of the University level sees you come face to face with Captain Raphael of the Nephtis Superioris. Just before his clearly marked arena, there is a Lantern—and THIS is your point of no return.

The Travel option is still available, so this is your chance to go back and tie up some loose ends, or get stronger. Once you beat Captain Raphael, a cutscene plays out that sees William get captured.
After this, you’re taken to Napoleon’s Prison, and you need to escape. Before heading into the sewers after retrieving your gear, there’s a Lantern, and the fast travel option is now hollowed out. It will remain this way until after you have beaten the final boss. The world has changed, and it makes sense that you can’t go and explore as you ordinarily would.
Does Valor Mortis Have New Game Plus?
New Game Plus will be added to Valor Mortis in Q4 2026.
A press release from TriplePoint explained the incoming addition:
‘Lyrical Games also announced New Game+ for Valor Mortis, coming in Q4 this year. The new mode will invite players to play through the game a second time with new challenges and tougher enemies, all while keeping loot and character progression from the first playthrough.’
