IEM Rio 2026 begins on April 13, bringing together Counter-Strike‘s elite for one of the most well-attended events before the IEM Cologne 2026 Major starts in June.
The Rio de Janeiro event could see Vitality’s era-defining roster capture the $1,000,000 ESL Grand Slam in Tier 1 CS’s first Brazil event since IEM Rio 2024, becoming the first roster to win the Grand Slam twice.

IEM Rio 2026 Predictions
There isn’t really a question of when Vitality will secure the Grand Slam; it is more a matter of when. IEM Rio will be their first opportunity. If they secure it here, they could technically win an unprecedented two Grand Slams in a single year.
Such a feat would require Vitality to attend all remaining ESL events in the year, with their attendance already guaranteed at IEM Atlanta in May and the IEM Cologne 2026 Major.
In truth, there’s very little question of whether Vitality can secure the Grand Slam at Rio. Vitality has never looked as far ahead of the pack, as displayed by their 3-0 victory over NAVI at BLAST Open Rotterdam.
The chasing pack is more where the questions lie. After winning EPL Season 23 and getting to the Grand Final at BLAST Rotterdam, NAVI will be looking to cement themselves as world number 2, in the hope of closing the gap to Vitality.
For Furia, Falcons, and Spirit, the hope will be to show strides of improvement after difficult starts to the year. Falcons especially need to show that their talk regarding better team play can become a reality.
For a faltering Furia, the Brazilian crowd is guaranteed to spur them on in the playoffs, but they’ll have to get there first.
MOUZ will also have to show signs of recovery after their collapse following their Pro League defeat to FUT. The roster followed that up with a last-place finish at BLAST.
Standing in their quarter of the bracket is Aurora, who looked exhausted at DracuLan after another busy schedule for the Turkish roster. With roster changes rumoured for the org, will they continue to show their best at Tier 1?
Predicted winner: Vitality
