How to Upgrade Inventory Space and Ammo Capacity in Borderlands 4

As you make your way toward the max level cap in Borderlands 4, you’ll inevitably find yourself needing a lot of ammo and inventory space. You’ll need ammo to keep blasting away at enemies, of course, while that precious inventory space will let you carry any weapons you round up out of the 30 billion guns in the game. Luckily, Borderlands 4 makes tackling these upgrades considerably easier than in previous titles.

If you need to know how to upgrade your inventory space and ammo capacity in Borderlands 4, or want to know how to get more of the SDU tokens needed to do so, we’ve got you covered below.

How to Upgrade Inventory Space and Ammo Capacity in Borderlands 4

Unlike previous games in the franchise, Borderlands 4 doesn’t require you to visit any special station to make upgrades to your inventory space or ammo capacity. Instead, you can just open your menu and scroll over to the “SDU” tab to apply these upgrades at any time. Easy peasy.

The available upgrades include:

  • Pistol Ammo
  • Assault Rifle Ammo
  • Sniper Rifle Ammo
  • SMG Ammo
  • Shotgun Ammo
  • Backpack
  • Bank
  • Lost Loot

As for which you should upgrade first, that’s entirely a matter of which weapon type you find yourself drawn to using most. However, you should definitely improve your Backpack space a few times early in your adventure to ensure you can carry a lot of the loot you find during your travels.

How to Get More SDU Tokens in Borderlands 4

Borderlands 4’s SDU tokens can be obtained by completing a variety of objectives around the map. Some notable examples include completing major campaign missions and claiming Order Silos and Safe Houses, which grant a sizable influx of this currency. But you can also gain smaller amounts by tracking down the multitude of collectibles throughout Kairos, too, such as Vault Symbols and Evocariums. You can tell if a location or collectible will grant you SDU tokens by hovering over the map icon and looking beneath the reward list for the symbol seen below.

In other words, simply tracking down as many optional objectives as possible is your best bet for loading up on SDU tokens. So, keep plugging away at those map icons and you’ll be rich in resources before you know it. Just don’t forget to head into your “SDU” tab and apply the upgrades.

Are you fully clearing the map as you chart a path through Borderlands 4? Or do you prefer to mainline the core campaign? Tell us how you’re enjoying your time on Kairos by visiting the Insider Gaming forum, or by leaving a comment below.
