One of the reasons Borderland’s looter-shooter formula has remained so consistent and popular is the excitement of seeing legendaries drop. Borderlands 4 has its own deep pool of legendary weapons, and we’ve got the best ways and tips to get more, and fast.
The sight and sound of a legendary drop still makes the skin tingle. Borderlands 4 has an almost unbelievable 30 billion guns to pull at some point or another. The drop rate for legendaries amongst this number is painfully low and makes us want to cry. You really shouldn’t expect to get legendary weapons early on in Borderlands 4, and they’re more for late-game/post-game antics when you’re trying to hit the max level cap.
Still, you can get legendary weapon drops throughout the game. We have our best tips to help get you there.
Best Early Legendary Weapon Loot Farming Method in Borderlands 4

The best early-game method to score legendary weapons is by retrying and fighting the Splashzone boss fight, which you encounter early on in Borderlands 4’s Riptide Grotto.
Here’s our quick method to help you do this:
- Progress through Borderlands 4 until you reach the Recruitment Drive mission.
- Advance through the quest, and you’ll eventually need to Kill Splashzone.
- He’s essentially a large Psycho and is quite easy to kill.
- Once you’ve done this, carry on and complete the missions, and advance the story until you gain freedom and need to Travel to Outbounders HQ.
- You now must travel to and clear out The Stockroom, which is an Order Silo—see the first screenshot above.
- Doing this unlocks a fast travel point.
- From The Stockroom, you need to fly forward to the giant solo in front of you, grapple on, and use the large device to propel you into the air.
- From here, glide over to Riptide Grotto—where you fought Splashzone (second screenshot).
- Before the bridge that takes you to Splashzone’s arena, there is a new Moxxi’s Big Encore vending machine next to the Ammo Dump one that was already there.
- You must pay the required amount that Moxxi’s machine asks, and doing so respawns Splashzone.
- Go back into the boss arena and kill Splashzone.
- Check out your loot, and you can take a few unwanted items and sell them at the Ammo Dump machine.
- Keep doing this cycle until you get a Legendary, or lots of powerful purple Epics.

What Are Legendaries in Borderlands 4?
Legendary weapons and other equipment are extremely rare loot drops, usually with incredibly rare and powerful effects you won’t find on any other rarity drops.
You can encounter a legendary drop at any point in Borderlands 4—or other entries in the series. However, the drop rate is staggeringly low. The idea is to get the occasional drop through your first dozens of hours of gameplay, and as you face tougher enemies toward the end of the game, the rate will go up slightly.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (new game plus) gives you a chance to start anew, but the game gets harder. Enemies are tougher and scale higher, but this also comes with the added bonus of increased legendary loot drop rates—meaning you’ll stumble across the game’s best gear more often.
