After years of waiting, Borderlands 4 is finally here, and if you’re returning to the franchise for the first time in years, it can be difficult to remember all the gameplay aspects. If you’re looking for how to respec your skills, this guide has all the details.
Borderlands 4’s launch has been rocky, to say the least, with users on Steam dubbing it ‘Stutterlands’ amid numerous issues, such as the game getting stuck on the compiling shaders screen. However, there’s still plenty to enjoy.
Customization is a huge part of the game, and while you should always be careful with how you allocate your hard-earned Skill Points, the choices you make are not permanent, and Respec is available. Here’s how.
How to Respec Skills in Borderlands 4

You can only respec your skills at the dedicated Respec Machines in Borderlands 4, which are spread across the world of Kairos.
Keep your eyes peeled for a map marker of a white triangle, with an outline of a head inside, as this marks the location of a Respec Machine.
Once you’ve located a machine, hold the interact button indicated where it says ‘Respec Skills’ and hand over the required cash. Depending on how many Skill Points you have equipped already, this number can get staggeringly high. Fortunately, there’s always loot to find.
When the fee has been paid, all equipped Skill Points are automatically refunded, and your character’s skill tree is opened. From here, re-allocate every single one of your Skill Points. If you leave before allocating your points, the skill tree remains blank, and you need to pay the Respec Machine again to regain access.
How to Respec Specialization Points in Borderlands 4
Specialization Points are also available to respec at the dedicated Respec Machines in Borderlands 4, though you’ll pay Eridium instead of cash.
Eridium is much more difficult to come by than cash, however, so be extra careful with the choices that you make. Given it’s so costly to play around with things, using online build players is advised so you can know exactly what points you want to allocate and where.
Don’t worry too much about this now, however, as Specializations are more of an Endgame feature than one for while you’re completing the main story and exploring the world of Kairos for the first time.
