One of the biggest new mechanics in Grounded 2 is mountable bugs, and Red Soldier Ant Eggs are required to unlock your first. Here’s all the details on how to get the item.
Available on Xbox Game Pass, though not yet released on PlayStation 5, Red Soldier Ant Eggs are harder to locate than the likes of Acorns and Grass Seeds, as they’re only found in one specific location. Additionally, they are heavily guarded.
We’ll guide you to the exact location you need to go to, along with providing some tips to ensure your survival.
Where to Find Red Soldier Ant Egg in Grounded 2

Red Soldier Ant Eggs are found in the depths of the Hatchery Anthill in Grounded 2. This is located east of the Ominent Onboarding Facility, where you start the game.
This resource is different to others in Grounded 2, however, as your weapons and equipment are sheathed when it is picked up. Therefore, you’ll need to clear the area of any hostile bugs before you transport the Red Soldier Ant Eggs.
Venturing into the Hatchery Anthill is a tough test, so make sure you bring as many resources as you can and take advantage of the spawn point midway through the Anthill. Here are some top tips for survival.
- Upgrade your weapons and armor as much as you can.
- Craft healing items like Bandages and Green Machine Smoothies for quick healing.
- Bring food and a Canteen full of liquid in case they’re needed.
- Set your spawn point to the beds found midway through the location.
- Take it slow, don’t rush through.
In the Hatchery Anthill, there’s a large number of Red Soldier Ants to defeat, which can overwhelm you if too many gather at once. Try to isolate each bug in a fight, utilizing the block and stun mechanic to your advantage.
The biggest threat is the O.R.C Weaver spider lurking in the depths, which is likely the biggest threat you’ve faced so far. For this fight, the best approach is to run past it until you get to the lab at the bottom, then attack it through the open doors. Its large size means it won’t be able to get close to you.
Once the O.R.C Weaver is defeated and you’ve reached the lab, there are just a few more Red Soldier Ants on the other side. Once they’re defeated, it should be clear to collect the Red Soldier Ant Eggs you need. I recommend grabbing at least two, especially if you’re playing with friends.
However, these eggs cannot be placed in storage and your inventory. Plus, they will disappear after a while if left on the ground. Therefore, make sure you have everything you need ready to hatch them immediately.
How to Use the Red Soldier Ant Egg in Grounded 2
Red Soldier Ant Eggs are used to hatch your first Buggy in Grounded 2, the Red Soldier Ant. These mountable bugs provide a huge advantage to exploration and combat.
To utilize them, you need to build a Hatchery. If you’ve reached the point where the game is directing you to collect the Red Soldier Ant Eggs, however, it should already be built. You will need a few other items to hatch the egg, with full requirements detailed below.
- 1x Red Soldier Ant Egg
- 2x Grub Hide
- 3x Sprig
- 1x Acorn Shell
Once all the items are gathered, interact with the Hatchery. Then press the button to start incubating (A on Xbox, space on PC). After 12 in-game hours, your first Buggy is unlocked. You can repeat this process for multiple Buggys, if you wish, but you can only have one active at once.
