Grounded 2 is the successor to 2022’s Grounded. It was an instant hit and has easily sold over 10 million copies. Obsidian is back with Grounded 2, and I’m here to tell you if it’s on PS5 and everything else you need to know.
July 29 marked Grounded 2‘s first day of early access. This isn’t an official release date, as the community will spend the next few months testing and trying out the survival sequel. You’ll have more ants in your pants, and spiders will be even more venomous and vicious than ever.
With the original Grounded coming to PS5, it’s logical to wonder if PlayStation users miss out again.
Can You Play Grounded 2 on PS5?
Currently, you can’t play Grounded 2 on PS5 as the game is only in early access for Xbox and PC users.
Grounded 2 can only be downloaded and played if you own an Xbox Series X|S or PC. Simply, PlayStation and Nintendo users can’t sample the game’s early offerings through PS5, Nintendo Switch, or the Switch 2.
This follows the same pattern as the first game. However, based on what we know, if you are on PS5 or Switch, you might need to survive a little while longer.
When Does Grounded 2 Come Out on PS5?
While there is no exact release date, Grounded 2 could potentially be released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch consoles in 2027—based on past schedules.
In an interview with Grounded 2 executive producer Marcus Morgan for Eurogamer (through PushSquare), the dev said: “Can’t talk about that right now [A PS5 port]. But I will say that Grounded 1 is on all of those platforms so…“
This is about as close to official confirmation as you’re going to get without someone saying it directly!
Again, if we follow Grounded 1’s timeline, we can work out a rough estimate.
- Grounded 1 went into early access in July 2020.
- Its full release came in September 2022 on Xbox and PC.
- A PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Switch launch took a further two years—in April 2024.
- Realistically, it will benefit Grounded 2 to get onto PS5 as soon as possible.
- I think there’s a very realistic chance that if early access is another two years, we can expect to see Grounded 2 have a worldwide launch on applicable platforms in 2027.
