Completing a Perfect Investigation in Phasmophobia shows the mark of a true ghost hunter, and we’ve got the guide to help you become a master.
As part of the Chronicle update on June 24, Phasmophobia veterans will find things are quite a bit different from what they were prior to the changes, with more work required to secure a Perfect Investigation.
We’ve got you covered, whether you’re an experienced hunter wanting to know about the changes or are new to the scene and need all the details.
How to get a Perfect Investigation in Phasmophobia

As confirmed in the patch notes, the requirements for securing a Perfect Investigation in Phasmophobia were changed in the Chronicle update.
The biggest changes come as part of the Media overhaul, which now requires filling the Journal with Unique Media from three sources: Photo, Video, and Sound.
When a piece of Media is captured for the first time, it is marked as Unique. When the same piece of Media is captured again, it is marked as Duplicate, earning less money and experience. Crucially, though, having any duplicate evidence prevents securing a Perfect Investigation.
Photo Evidence has seen some changes in the update, with some pieces of evidence moved to the new video section, but the basics like picturing bones, Ouija Boards or similar items, and taking a photograph of the ghost itself remain options. Five Unique Photos are needed in total.
Video Evidence also requires five unique pieces of media, which come from a variety of sources, including disturbed Salt, interaction with objects, and ghost hunts. Check out our full guide on how to record video for more details.
Capturing sound evidence is the hardest part of a perfect investigation, in my experience, even though only three are required. The most common type is Paranormal Sounds, including ghost mutterings, but it also includes ghost hunts and Spirit Box responses. Here’s our full guide on how to record sounds for further details.
Aside from those changes the media, the other requirements for securing a Perfect Investigation remain. You must find the Bone on the map and complete the three Optional Challenges.
Finally, identify the ghost successfully by using all the equipment available to rule out options and identify candidates.
