Hideo Kojima Has Not Decided Whether PHYSINT Will Use Decima

Hideo Kojima says he is still experimenting with PHYSINT’s engine. The newly established XBOX partnership offers Kojima Productions access to new technology.

PlayStation recently dropped Kojima’s latest major project, and Microsoft’s gaming division picked it up. A report said PlayStation dropped the project because of budget concerns and missed deadlines. However, Kojima Productions recently responded to those reports, urging people not to believe everything they read.

In an interview with IGN, Hideo Kojima was asked whether the changes in development required the studio to switch engines or continue using the Decima engine used for the Death Stranding games.

Kojima revealed that he hadn’t even decided which game he would use it for. He also noted that this new partnership offers a variety of new technological support.

After we decided to team up with Xbox, they said they will give us a lot of technological support. When I went to visit them during the Don Mattrick days, they had so many labs and everything, and they were experimenting on so many things, like state of the art, new, really new, cutting-edge technology. I was really surprised. I was thinking, “There are so many Doc Browns from Back to the Future here!” So I want to use all this new technology. Anything that I can use, I want to use, and I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox, but I really haven’t decided about the engine.

Certain decisions regarding PHYSINT have been finalized, including naming Bill Skarsgård as the game’s lead cast member. Still, Kojima and Xbox aren’t just working on this upcoming title. They’re also continuing to work on OD, which recently resumed production following a SAG strike.

Insider Gaming will continue to monitor all things related to PHYSINT and report any updates.
