The Death Stranding 2 actor really thought for a long time that he was playing Snake from the Metal Gear Solid series, only to have his bubble busted by the man himself, Hideo Kojima.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is set to release on June 26, 2025, and ahead of the launch, we know Luca Marinelli will play Neil in the upcoming title. Many might remember the actor strikingly resembling the protagonist from Hideo Kojima’s previous game series, Metal Gear Solid, in one of Death Stranding 2’s trailers. It seems we weren’t the only ones who thought Luca Marinelli could be Solid Snake.
Luca Marinelli Thought He Was Playing Solid Snake in Death Stranding 2

As revealed by GamesRadar+, when Hideo Kojima asked Luca Marinelli what his friends thought of his character reveal in Death Stranding 2, Marinelli gave a fascinating answer: “Oh, Snake is wonderful. I’m so happy to be Snake.” Kojima could not let this fly and immediately cleared the misunderstanding. Kojima told Marinelli, “You’re not Snake. You just have a bandana on your head!”
That was not all. Kojima gave props to Marinelli for his acting, calling it “just so, so spectacular.” He needed someone who could one-up Mads Mikkelsen’s performance in the previous game; Luca ended up being the right fit. Kojima also narrated a situation where even Norman Reedus and Léa Seydoux, who are “usually on their phones,” would put their phones down and concentrate when Marinelli was performing.
