The power of the gamers has been proven once again as PlayStation recently came out to reveal that users on PC will not need to create a PSN account to play Helldivers 2 on Steam. This hugely controversial change was due to take place yesterday, but it didn’t go ahead thanks to the rampant negativity it brought on, with Helldivers 2 securing almost 300,000 negative reviews on Steam over three days.
Now, following the cancellation of that change, Helldivers 2 has picked up more than 200,000 positive reviews on the platform in just a single day, righting the ship and bringing the game’s overall rating back up.
All They Wanted
It was a dramatic situation for a few days. If the change had gone ahead, users in dozens of countries around the world would have lost access to Helldivers 2 on PC, as many territories aren’t a part of the PlayStation Network.
Here’s what PlayStation ultimately had to say about the changes:
Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward.
We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.
Sadly, the majority of this blowback hit Arrowhead Studios, the game’s developer. It was a decision that was out of their control, and some members of staff at the firm were urging users to leave negative reviews and request refunds to hit Sony where it hurt the most.
It’s still unconfirmed if this change will be attempted further down the line.
